ALERT: Misleading Advertising from Domain Registry of Canada (DROC)
Several
of our customers have called asking about mail and faxes
they have received from a private company called "The Domain Registry
of Canada". This company is no way affiliated with Vaxxine, and
should not be confused with CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration
Authority). "Domain Registry of Canada" has sent misleading solicitations
to our customers which appear to be a renewal notice or a bill, but
in fact are a cleverly disguised solicitation to try and convince customers
to transfer their domains away from Vaxxine. Click on the the picture
to the right for a larger version of what this notice looks like. The
mailings allegedly give the impression that domain name holders are
existing customers of, and have to re-register their domain names with,
the Domain Registry of Canada (DROC). Neither of these elements
are true.
Other Registrars are also aware of DROC's misleading advertising.
If you act on any materials from "Domain Registry of Canada", you may
inadvertently transfer your domain services to them and possibly be
obligated to incur additional renewal fees for your domain. Always
read the fine print, beware of scammers. If you receive what "looks" like
a bill/invoice from a company you've never heard of, be especially
wary.
What can you do?
We want to help you prevent your domain name registration from being
moved to another company by being tricked into renewing with another
provider. If you receive mail that appears to be an invoice, which
is in fact a solicitation for business, you may be the target of
a fraudulent or false invoicing scheme. If you are a Vaxxine client
and would like us to check the status of your domain, please
email us. We'll be able to check the status of your domain and advise
you. Your domain can not be transferred away unless you authorize
it.
If you've already sent a payment to "Domain Registry of Canada"
If you have already sent money, we suggest you contact your bank or
credit card company regarding your options of having payment stopped
or reversed. If your domain is transferred away, you will not be
able to manage the domain in your account with us, and won't have
access to the services we provide for this domain.
